Taste of Hope

The Taste of Hope is having its 2nd annual dinner on August 16, 2015.  This event supports The Enitan Story with its work of restoring lives and empowering survivors of human trafficking and domestic abuse.  If you are looking for a summer event to attend or support, please consider joining us.

Patience ain’t pretty

How do you practice patience? I have decided to go on a sabbatical for a while. It was an easy choice to step away from things for a while because as an introvert, I spend most of my days like this anyway. However, the challenge in it is to understand the test of patience and the lesson to learn this time round. It is not a pretty sight. I have become a grumbler. Uggh! This is truly a thorn in my flesh. A very painful one indeed. So if you call me and you get the voicemail and text not returned, you know why.

I have been becoming easily agitated and annoyed with so many things lately and reduced to whining and complaining which is not where I want to be. I have heard the words “be patient” almost daily over the last few weeks and I take note that there is something I should learn from that. The message has been screaming LOUDLY and I can’t ignore it any longer.

I want off the treadmill of do more, see more, be more at breakneck speed caught up in the web of consumerism and meeting imposed expectations subconsciously. My adrenal glands, mind, spirit and emotions need to recover/heal from the demands I have placed on them. Nothing is that important when compared with my mental, physical and spiritual health.

I’m mostly unplugged except for blog posts and journaling which is a form of therapy for me. I do apologize if it took some of you by surprise, but most of you know me well enough by now to know that I do this from time to time. It is necessary so that I remain the loving and generous person you know me to be. The grumbler you would not enjoy having around lol.

Healing from disappointment

How do you move forward from disappointment?  Is it possible? Today I was very angry about an issue.  After whining, complaining, venting, and feeling more anger, I realized I did not have a word for this issue for a very long time.  For years.  Twenty years. I could list the other areas of my life this issue triggered again and again.  The word is disappointment.  On the flip side of it is acceptance.  Getting angry and going into a tailspin about issues have not helped me to heal, only further delayed it.  So today I accept and own up to expectation I placed in an outcome, person, situation and circumstance.  I have been carrying this around way too long. (Hmm, might be the reason for the excess weight too). Being angry was a natural response to the pain and I felt entitled.  Today I got vulnerable and just simply expressed I was disappointed.  It was a huge burden lifted. I didn’t even know it was gonna come out of my mouth because I had not been able to articulate what it was for all these years. Today, I released it.  Today I am no longer chained.  Today I accepted that the disappointment happened.  Today I move forward… I am free.

The gift of laughter

Today I had the great pleasure of sitting with a friend after work, which is something rare for me. Midweek socializing is far and few in between. However, this visit was just what the doctor ordered.  We laughed and laughed some more. We drank Coca-Cola and snacked on puff puff. We talked everything from a to z.  The initial purpose of our visit was put aside intuitively as we found time to just be.  Laughter is good medicine.  I am rejuvenated to finish the week in high spirits.

Have you ever been at a place in life where you just get in a slump and say no to every invitation?  Invitations to parties?  Invitations to hang out with friends?  Invitations to a new career? Invitations to go on a date? You get where I am headed.  I too, have been guilty of saying no to invitations to have fun.  Having fun lets us put our cares and concerns of life in a box for an brief time and enjoy the moment.  I challenge you to feel better by saying yes to one invitation or one new thing per day.  Ok, I know I am pushing, perhaps one new thing per month.  Here(below) is me saying yes and I filmed the video just for you (excuse the cough drop I am eating).  Vid at Twins game
